Don’t Lose Your Digital Photos & Document
Data Is Important – So Back Up Your Computer Today!
Home Data Back Up vs. Business Data Back Up
Just last month I had to tell a mother that she lost all of her youngest daughter’s baby pictures due to not backing up her computer’s data. How I wish she would have called me sooner! I don’t mean to sound dramatic, but the reality is that the precious photos and important documents on your computer simply are not safe from being lost forever.
Think about all of the things you use your computer for: emailing, photos, writing personal documents, financial and tax records, music and much more. What are you doing to make sure you don’t lose your data? You can take action now to have peace of mind knowing that your data is backed up and safe.
There are three main ways to back up your computer.
- Manually copy your most important data files to a CD or USB memory key.
- Make a copy of your entire hard drive (called cloning) onto an external hard drive.
- Back up your data to an online data backup service.
So, which method is best for you? Answer the following questions to determine your customized solution:
- Do you have a little or a lot of data to back up? If it’s less than two gigs, you can easily backup to CD or USB memory key.
- Do you have more than two gigs to back up or are you interested in saving all your programs and settings? If so, cloning your hard drive onto an external hard drive is the only option for you.
- Do you want a backup that works without you having to do anything once it is set up? Going with an online data backup service would be best for you.
The most important aspect to a data backup plan is to choose one that you will actually do! So consider your needs carefully when choosing your back up method.
